Transmission system restructuring and optimal placement of DG for congestion management

This paper presents the methodology to manage transmission congestion by restructuring the system buses and placing the DG into the system. Here, an interconnected IEEE 14 bus system is reconfigured into 12 bus system and then DG has been placed for congestion management. The results obtained from restructuring of system with DG placement are compared to be more effective than the DG placement for congestion management. The DG has been placed after restructuring of system at the bus having highest Locational Marginal Pricing (LMP) by running the ACOPF using Interior Point Method. The DG placement method for congestion management has been studied using a hardware prototype model of two bus system with SCADA control.
