Transmission scheme for supressing nonlinear signal degradation using correlation detection

We propose a transmission scheme for suppressing signal degradation due to Kerr effects. To suppress inter-symbol interference due to a temporal signal overlap and Kerr effects, this scheme uses optical signals with short waveforms and excess bandwidths. Moreover, the correlation detection with a distorted reference signal minimizes the signal degradation due to amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) noise. The correlation receiver acts as a matched filter for the distorted received signals.
