Nonuniform absorbing coating as an effective way to reduce radar visibility of an object with the surface formed by flat conductive plates

Evaluation of opportunities to reduce radar visibility of objects which surface is formed by combination of flat conductive plates by applying a cover, which electromagnetic wave absorbing effect by its pass is determined by previously selected edge surface weighting grid function. Resulted backward scatter diagram of rectangular plates without cover, with even coverage and homogeneous coating of the same amount, thickness of which is applied based on standard weighting functions. Obtained results show that reducing radar visibility of objects is achieved by reducing a level of main lobe, and significant reduction of backward scatter diagram side lobes in all angles of observation. It is shown that advantage of this method before applying even coating is the possibility of selecting an optimal solution features of various problems, such as energy maximizing of the main lobe at a maximum speed of side lobes energy decreasing, minimum main lobe expansion at a fixed maximum side lobes level, minimizing absorbing coverage amount, minimization side lobes level at a fixed absorbing coating amount.
