The 1999 IEEE MTT-S international microwave symposium: "The magic touch of microwaves"

THIS YEAR’S IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S) International Microwave Symposium (IMS), held June 13–19, 1999, in Anaheim, CA, was a big success. We must have had the “Magic Touch” going for us. That goes also for the Radio Frequency Integrated Circuits (RFIC) and Automatic Radio Frequency Techniques Group (ARFTG) Conferences and other functions, which all together made up “Microwave Week.” The technical events ran from Sunday through Friday in all sorts of formats (see Kuno and Gupta’s “The 1999 IMS Technical Programs” paper in this TRANSACTIONS). In addition, many other activities took place. The Plenary Session was well attended. We were fortunate to have Ken Laker, IEEE President, present the IEEE Electromagnetics Award and the IEEE MTT-S 1999 IEEE Fellows. Also, we had an excellent keynote presentation by Dr. John Forrest, Royal Academy of Engineering (see Horton, Staecker, and the keynote address papers).
