Research on MAC efficiency for broadband PLC access network

The Low Voltage Power Line Communication (LVPLC) MAC protocols are an important influence factor for the network efficiency. To solve the existing problem that p persistent CSMA leads distinctly poor MAC efficiency under heavy loads in the same collision domain, we propose an adaptive p persistent CSMA efficiency optimization protocol for the finite loads in LVPLC mesh network. This protocol reduces collision probability to the data packets, optimizes the power line channel transmission status and maximizes the MAC efficiency by dynamically adjusting and controlling the probability p based on the number of the active stations. The simulation results show that the proposed protocol retains its maximum efficiency about 6.5%, compared with static p persistent CSMA.
