FPGA-Based automatic collimation research of optical fiber beam

In order to measure the fiber parameters accurately and quickly, a kind of optical fiber beam collimation system is studied in this paper. The center of the beam image captured by the CCD camera is fed to the FPGA. Then the FPGA using the fuzzy self-tuning PID to controls multi-dimensional electric platform so that making the fiber vertical to the camera surface and achieving the beam automatic collimation. The results show that the fuzzy self-tuning PID control response adjustment time is about 0.8ms, faster than the PID response 0.3ms. At the same time, within 5mm of the radial direction of the fiber, the coordinate error of the center is less than 5um after the collimation. In the last measured fiber parameters, the measurement accuracy of the long and short axis divergence angle is also ± 0.1.
