Research on identification of inertia for LCI-fed synchronous motor

This paper proposes a strategy for identification of inertia for synchronous motors fed by load commutated inverters (LCI). As an important parameter of the synchronous motor's mathematical model, inertia makes an important impact in optimizing controlling capability. In this paper, the identification of inertia is based on recursive least-squares method (RLS). The viability of this method is proved in an inertia identification model based on the soft starting of a LCI-fed synchronous motor, which is built in Matlab/Simulink. Finally, the proposed method is verified on a 15KW synchronous motor platform, which can realize the accurate inertia identification online.
