Reactive power loadability based optimal placement of wind and solar DG in distribution network

The integration of the renewable power generation into the existing grid has been increased significantly and it is expected to be increased further in near future. The placement of renewable power generation units can be done accordance with reactive power loadability and it has to be taken care during the optimal placement. In this paper, a particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) based optimal placement of the wind and solar DGs has been proposed. The placement of DG has been found by classifying the type of the bus, named, weak and strong bus. The losses and change in the voltage at different buses has been calculated and suitable position of the placement has been found. The proposed algorithm has been implemented on 14-bus Kumamoto system in Japan. The simulation of the system has been performed in MATLAB.
