Simultaneous active and reactive power control of single-phase grid connected battery storage system

This paper presents decoupled active and reactive power control technique between a battery bank and single-phase local electrical grid. The modeling and control of this scheme will provide required amount of active power into grid. Here, active power balance occurs between dc and ac side of inverter. Simultaneously reactive power requirements by the electrical grid can be maintained via suggested closed loop controlled operation. Here single phase full-bridge converter topology is used and it is controlled to support required activities mentioned above. In the control strategy, active and reactive component of the grid current is controlled to maintain required active and reactive power. The ac side step-up transformer is avoided in this scheme for connecting the inverter directly to the grid. Thus, the required voltage boosting action is also done in dc side of the inverter for maintaining sufficient voltage at inverter output, which facilitates its direct grid integration. The proposed concept is validated by appropriate simulation study using MATLAB-SIMULINK 2014b software.
