Manipulating the differently-polarized radiation waves by thin transmissive metasurface lenses

We propose a novel element for the design of the planar metasurface lense for applications to polarization reconfiguration or polarization diversity. The element is based on three identical dielectric layers and four identical metal layers. The metal layer is composed of two orthogonally-crossed printed dipoles and a square frame connecting eight short stubs By designing the phase distribution on anisotropic metasurfaces, the linear-polarized incident quasi-spherical waves can be transformed into circular-polarized transmitted waves with a high gain and splitting x/y-polarized waves can also be carried out. Two thin metasurfaces are designed to realize linear-to-circular polarization and polarization beam splitting conversions, respectively. Simulations validate the design predictions, demonstrating the good capacity of the proposed metasurfaces to independently manipulate the transmission waves with different polarizations.
