On the detectability of rotor asymmetries in induction motors from the start-up transient

A theoretical study of the electromechanical transient after switch-on at standstill of an induction motor with rotor asymmetry is carried out. Purpose of this study is to assess the influence of the motor parameters on the amplitude and the duration of the electrical and the mechanical transient. Subsequently the influence of the transient characteristics as well as of the applied current time-frequency analysis technique on the detectability of the rotor asymmetries is examined.
