Unsteady flows within lung bifurcations

The aim of this study is to investigate airflow in the conductive pulmonary airways to contribute to a better understanding of the human pulmonary system. This experimental study deals with the investigation of oscillatory flows within a 2D model of three successive generations of lung bifurcations. The particle image velocimetry technique has been used to provide the simultaneous visualization of 2D streamline patterns in unsteady flow. The steady streaming displacement phenomenon has been highlighted and analyzed.
