Modelling the barents territory coverage area of satellite KA-SAT

Barents region has an exceedingly complex structure of the surface in terms of geography. This region contains many impassable places. Theoretically, for the construction of surface area covered by KA-SAT satellite signal measurements should be carried out in all the nodes of the 50×50 km grid. Actually, due to the lack of roads conducting such measurements is not possible. The authors made the maximum possible measurement in field expeditions in 2013-2014. Initially built as a result of expeditions coverage area was quite different from the theoretical coverage area provided by the satellite manufacturer. Decision was made to carry out mathematical modeling coverage using measured readings. New results of Earth surface signal coverage by KA-SAT satellite in Barents Region were obtained. The results have maximum 5% differences compared to the theoretical values of mainland. All in all, experimental data proved theoretical ones. The program created by the authors allows observing the level of KA-SAT satellite signal in any geographical point of the Barents Region.
