Power dependent velocities of microwave envelope solitons [in YIG films]

Microwave envelope solitons propagating in magnetic thin films experience both linear and nonlinear dispersive effects. The nonlinear dispersive effects lead to an amplitude dependent soliton velocity, which can be directly measured in thin film experiments. However, dissipation is an important effect that must be considered in typical thin films. In this work we investigate the effect of dissipation on the amplitude dependence of the soliton velocity. This is done by numerical simulations including nonlinear dispersion, and it is shown that this amplitude dependence of the soliton velocity remains a measurable effect even with significant dissipation.
