An asynchronous GOP structure based on tile partition

Tile based video coding technique has been introduced in H.265/HEVC for parallel coding/decoding. In spite of parallel-friendly feature of tiles, another important advantage is its reduction on size of the line buffers for motion compensation. GOP (Group of Picture) structure, as the fundamental arrangement of frames to be encoded, has a significant impact on both visual quality and bitrate. In this paper, we combine tile-based encoding with group of picture (GOP) arrangements, and propose an asynchronous GOP structure for tiles, to smoothen the bitrate distribution in every GOP, and this result can be applied in rate control algorithm.
