Microwave irradiation in preparation of dental biomaterials

Tooth minerals consist in hydroxyapatite, tricalcium phosphate, octacalcium phosphate and dicalcium phosphatdehydrate. Hydroxyapatite and related biomaterials can be obtained by autochthon methods and the aim of this work was to create bio-nanomaterials with dental applications using microwave irradiation technique. Microwave extraction process from bovine bones was performed at 100–190°C using 0.05M sodium hydroxide. Microwave assisted syntheses of hydroxyapatite were conducted at different values of pH and different temperatures, 90–120°C. The resulted biomaterials were characterized by X-ray diffraction XRD, Fourier transform infrared FT-IR, transmission and scanning microscopy, TEM and SEM and TG-DTA analysis.
