Transient stability analysis for an island with diesel generators and wind generators

This paper investigates the dispatch of diesel generators in Kinmen Island power system with wind power generators. Because wind conditions are somewhat unpredictable, it is difficult to provide a stable base load of power to the grid from wind energy. To ensure an adequate supply of energy at all times, wind energy needs to be combined with other sources. To know the dynamic behavior of the system, the load flow analysis with both the peak and off-peak operating condition are executed. Then the disturbances introduced by gusting wind and one generator tripping contingency with the designed load shedding scheme are considered in the transient stability analysis. The suitable diesel generator dispatch of the power system can then be determined according to the simulation results.
