Mobile platform based multispectral imaging of a wound simulation created by vacuum cupping

The wound care management of bedsore is important to long-term bedridden patients. The wound size is usually monitored by a consumer-graded camera and then calculated by computer-aided analysis. In this paper, we simulated a subcutaneous and dermal injury using vacuum cupping experiment and performed multispectral imaging with three wavelengths, including active 650 nanometers red light and 940 nanometers near-infrared light illumination, plus passive 8- 12μm thermal imaging. We also proposed to modify the optical design of current smartphones and connect with a miniature thermal imaging module via the Micro-USB port to fulfill our imaging needs. The extra imaging capabilities allow us to investigate more physiological features of a wounded site than a traditional visible light camera does.
