Study of the optimal helical passageways in complex-hole polishing by abrasive flow machining

The traditional abrasive flowing machining (AFM) methods have difficulty achieving uniform roughness of radial distribution in polishing of complex holes due to the non-uniform abrasive forces. Thus, abrasive machining of gels with helical passageways is proposed to create a multiple motion of abrasive medium and to obtain the even surface of the complex holes in AFM process. In this study, the task is to find the optimum conditions for different design parameters of a helical passageway, and machining parameters using the method of Taguchi reaction characteristics.
