Optimal energy management for a home Microgrid based on multi-period artificial bee colony

The main goal of the intelligent energy management system (EMS) is to enable a home Microgrid (H-MG) to improve its energy performance, to minimize the production cost and the market clearing price (MCP), as well as the better utilization of renewable energy resources. To attain this goal, an EMS based on multi-period artificial bee colony (MABC) (hereafter simply called EMS-MABC) is implemented for economic dispatch by considering various constraints. The impact of the consumption shifting in demand response (DR) program in the H-MG schedule is also considered while H-MG is on an isolated operation mode. To validate the efficiency of the proposed algorithm, a comparison is carried out between the proposed algorithm and a modified conventional energy management system (MCEMS). The obtained results demonstrate that the energy cost is reduced about 30% and an acceptable increase in decision making to speed up the process is seen in the proposed algorithm.
