Optimisation of the energy efficiency and the CO2 reduction, for the NGL separation

In the light of the emissions associated with fossil fuel combustion and their associated health and environmental impacts, natural gas is becoming increasingly attractive when compared with other fuels. Natural gas is a mixture of methane and other gases, which include natural gas liquid (NGL). This paper presents modeling and optimization of the distillation column of NGL fractions, especially the deethanizer and depropanizer columns. The calculation of the NGL separation columns was performed by using Peng-Robinson thermodynamic model, with the help of Pro II software. A technical feasibility study was followed to run the NGL separation columns at optimum values of pressure and reflux ratio to optimize efficiency of the column. The results allowed us to highlight the effect of these parameters on the energy efficiency of the NGL separation columns. From an economic point of view, separate the NGL with optimal parameters may contribute to a decrease in expenses related to the energy consumption and CO

emission.
