The influence of surface modifier on structural morphology and dielectric property of XLPE/SiO2 Nanocomposites

Polymer-based nanocomposite dielectrics have excellent mechanical, thermal and electrical properties. They can be used as reliable insulation materials in the new energy grid and electric power equipment of the smart grid. Good dispersion and distribution of nanoparticles in polymer matrix can change the structural morphology of polymer, which affects the macroscopic dielectric properties of nanocomposites. XLPE/SiO
₂
nanocomposites are prepared by melting blending method, in which the nano-SiO
₂
is modified by different surface modifier. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) is used to study the dispersion and distribution of nanoparticles with different surface modifier in polymer matrix. The effect of surface modifier on crystal morphology of XLPE/SiO
₂
nanocomposites is analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). This paper mainly discusses the influence of interfacial effect on conductivity, breakdown characteristic of nanocomposites, which to establish the link between the structural morphology and dielectric properties.
