Sketching a mHealth based system to improve breast cancer prevention

The ubiquitous presence of smartphones worldwide is contributing to the field of mhealth. These devices are used to promote health in different approaches. Breast cancer is the most frequent cancer in the female population and the mortality rate remains increasing in Brazil, which has been associated to delayed diagnosis. Thus, we aimed to outline a mhealth system to mobilize the target women for prevention campaigns of breast cancer. We initially accomplished a survey focusing on the evaluation on the performance of Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) in the screen of breast cancer malignant lesions as well as the profile of target women for preventive programs. These data will be needed to design a mhealth system to improve breast cancer prevention. The recent data showed that only 4% of the target population have been screened by mammography. For this amount, 15% were identified with suspicious lesions. The profile of patients was various, much of the information was omitted suggesting the need of a new epidemiological study to be carried out. The geolocated data will be associated to the mobile interface to help users localize health services. We intend to provide notifications regarding the mammography appointments and their results as well as informative contents.
