Impact of increasing electricity generation based on wind energy in the Wholesale Electricity Market of the Dominican Republic

This article presents the impact of incrementing the capacity of electricity generation based on wind energy in the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) of the Dominican Republic (DR), through the use of a long-term planning program that allows to monitor the changes of the main interest variables, the marginal costs of energy and variations in the generation dispatch considering the fuels used by the power stations installed in the system during the scope predefined for this study. Additionally, from the conceptual and referential points of view, aspects of electricity generation based on wind energy are addressed, describing the general characteristics of the Dominican Electricity Market (DEM) and the wind power potential of the country.
