Comparison of Hash-Based Indexing Schemes for Broadcasting Data in Wireless Environment

In the challenging world of mobile devices, there is a huge need for satisfying the requests of millions of mobile users in a single response. Wireless data broadcasting is the most suitable way of disseminating public information to a number of mobile users. The way of disseminating information must be energy and latency efficient enough so that it can cope with the limitations of a mobile device. A mobile device is mainly characterized by limited bandwidth and limited battery power. Therefore, we implement different indexing techniques for disseminating information so that clients can tune and download data of their own interest while using minimum bandwidth and minimum battery power. There are various indexing schemes available for this purpose. Access time and Tuning time are two main parameters for evaluating the performance of these indexing schemes. Among different indexing schemes, Hashing scheme gives better results in terms of access time and tuning time. This paper studies, analyzes and compares all the existing Hash-based indexing schemes over wireless data broadcasting environment. Based on the performance of different hashing schemes in different wireless environment, we can choose one of them for disseminating the information.
