Reduced operating temperature levels in telecommunications huts and vaults: energy and battery costs

Two major costs associated with the operation of telecommunications huts and vaults are those for HVAC energy use and battery replacement. The study reported here analyzed the economic impact of operating these structures at temperatures below the traditional limit of 95/spl deg/F. To estimate these costs, predictive models were applied to the operation of a prototypical hut and a prototypical vault, both defined using average data from facilities currently operating. Detailed analyses were performed in each of ten climates in the continental United States.
