Impact of photovoltaic systems on voltage profile and power losses of distribution networks in Jordan

To meet the demand of electrical energy, renewable energy resources are one of these energy sources in the recent years, one of these sources is photovoltaic systems (PV). Grid connected PV system within the distribution networks offers a number of benefits, i.e. clean and economic energy. However, the PV output causes impacts on the electrical network. Hence, studying the possible impacts of PV on the electrical grid is an important issue. In this paper, the impact of integrating PV generation system on the existing distribution system is carried out in a radial distribution network for two periods of time, before and after connecting a PV plant to the grid by providing detailed case study for such system that would be applied in Al-Mafraq/Jordan. Results of different modelling scenarios are analyzed. In each scenario, we studied the effects of PV plants on the voltage profile and power losses of the feeders by using DIgSILENT power factory software.
