Energy from Biomass: Thermochemical processes

The talk will focus on generation of energy from Biomass with special emphasis on thermochemical processes which include Pyrolysis, Gasification, Combustion and Fisher Tropsch Synthesis along with the practical examples. The talk will provide: • Clear viewpoint of various renewable biomass feedstock of importance to Pakistan and their availability and attributes for bio-energy production. (Biomass Atlas ESMAP project with World Bank) • Thorough understanding of the broad concept of second and third generation biofuel production from biomass and other low-cost agro-residues and bio-wastes. • Concise approach to prepare the process design of biomass gasification (Biomass Gasification project with UNIDO) as well as to prepare mass and energy balances of the thermochemical processes. The talk will also establish how a sizable biofuels project in collaboration with NRG Biofuels Canada where employment of a photosensitive catalyst produces biodiesel at a much faster rate consuming much less energy.
