Roof top photovoltaic grid integration: Utility approach

Because of environmental issues, penetration of solar generation has dramatically increased in recent times. However, due to rise in its penetration, various technical aspects viz. safety, power quality, protection and distribution network planning are to be addressed by the utility. Considering the impact of grid tied roof top photovoltaic system penetration on existing conventional distribution system, the paper elaborates on measures to be taken by utility (power distribution licensee) for successful integration. Field measurements are presented to substantiate the concepts explained.
