Ontology representation of Amazon S3 objects for metadata enrichment

Amazon Simple Storage Service is storage for the Internet designed to make web-scale computing easier for developers. Objects are the fundamental entities stored in Amazon S3. It is a simple key-based object store where each Amazon S3 object has data, a key, and metadata. Object key name identifies the object in a bucket uniquely. Object metadata is a set of name-value pairs that can be set at the time of uploading. This design enables S3 to provide excellent performance for storing and retrieving objects based on a known key. However there are certain challenges which limits the use of the Object metadata efficiently due to non-standard metadata keys. On the other hand, ontology has been used to represent information in various domains. The use of ontology to model the information coming from heterogeneous sources results in non-ambiguous and a standard representation. Additionally, with an ontology based metadata the underlying metadata keys have the same shared semantic meaning. Thus ontology representation of S3 objects makes searching of objects using required attributes faster and efficient. This paper presents an ontology so that the metadata for all S3 objects have a common standard and same shared semantic meaning.
