Component Sizing of Electric Vehicle / Hybrid Electric Vehicle subsystems using Backward modelling approach

Electric and Hybrid Electric Vehicle technologies are developing rapidly as a solution to energy and environmental issues. EV/HEV power train system integrates a number of electro mechanical systems and an optimum subsystem design is inevitable to arrive at a practical solution in terms of performance and size of the power train components. Component sizing is essential to meet the performance requirements with the optimum resources and at the same time prevents unwanted wastage of energy resources and losses. Equation based calculators provide component sizing estimation results by considering only a single operational point. The energy flow between subsystems under dynamic operational conditions can be effectively analyzed in a suitable simulation environment. This paper discusses the Component Sizing of Electric Vehicle / Hybrid Electric Vehicle subsystems using Backward Simulation approach.
