Simulated thermal response test for ground heat storage: Numerical and analytical modeling of borehole

An understanding of behavior of a heat storage system provides possibility to design and build more optimal system. Improved optimal utilization of a seasonal heat storage system is possible with a better understanding the behavior of heat storage in a bedrock. For a small building or a house, heating or cooling demands can be met with efficient use of renewable energy. Majority of the heat energy production may be done with geothermal energy making it a cost effective and long term solution in Finland. In order to implement an efficient renewable energy source, geothermal energy is considered to fulfill the heating and cooling demands of a building. This paper deal with the modeling and simulation of a heat storage system designed in Kokkola city subject to study and understand the thermal property of the ground and answer some interesting questions a designer may have. Comsol is used for modeling and simulation purpose. The data from the design site is compared with the theoretical model.
