Physical layer based authentication without phase detection

Authentication on the physical layer is proposed to enhance the security of communication. Some authentication techniques assume high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) to estimate and exploit the phase of the received signal for the hypothesis test. We study the performance of a generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) assuming that the phase of the received signal cannot be measured accurately. Thus the decision is based on absolute values of the received signal. We show that our algorithm can be used for successful authentication without any information on the phase. We compare our approach with a recent one additionally considering the phase.
