Dielectric resonator filter design exploiting space mapping optimization

In this paper we exploit the space mapping optimization technique [1] to design dielectric resonator filters. The coarse model is a network model consisting of a coupling matrix and input/output transmission lines. The fine model is simulated by Ansoft HFSS. The idea is to establish a mapping between the filter design parameters and the coupling elements. This mapping is approximated by a linear relation and is updated iteratively until reaching the optimal design. The technique is very efficient and converges to the optimal design in a few iterations. We illustrate the design technique through a 4 pole dielectric filter design.
