The signal processing system for the DRAO phased array demonstrator: PHAD

Sampling the fields near the focal plane of a paraboloid, with an array of feeds, has numerous advantages. With appropriate signal processing, multiple-beams can be formed yielding a broader field of view compared to a conventional single-element feed [1-7]. Additionally, these beams can be shaped and optimized, for instance to maximize gain or minimize spillover [4,8]. As well, corrections can be applied permitting certain system imperfections, such as coma, to be compensated [9-12].
