A novel design for reducing the dimension of a circular patch antenna

A new down-sized circular patch antenna for small portable terminals is introduced and implemented. In this design a circular patch antenna is divided into two separate parts which are then connected to each other by a number of parallel transmission lines. It is demonstrated that the resonant frequency can be reduced and controlled by changing the number and modifying the characteristics of these lines. A three-fold reduction in resonant frequency can be achieved with this technique.
