Speed estimation and equivalent circuit parameter determination of induction motor using virtual instrumentation

Virtual instrumentation has a vital role in testing and experimentation of electrical machines and drives to increase the accuracy and efficiency of analytical part in the experiment. This paper presents LabVIEW (Laboratory Virtual Instrumentation Engineering Workbench) based speed estimation and equivalent circuit parameter determination of induction motor. Instead of using actual measuring instruments, virtual instrumentation has been used for the no-load and blocked rotor tests of induction motor. Real-time controller cRIO(Compact Reconfigurable Input/Output) is used for this purpose. Data acquisition modules NI 9225 and NI 9227 are used for measuring analog voltage and current respectively. This paper also presents modelling of three phase induction motor and its speed estimation which uses control design and simulation toolkit, mathscript node and simple Virtual Instruments (VIs). In addition, the results obtained from virtual instrumented techniques are validated by a verification method which is done using measuring instruments. Experiments are conducted on three phase induction motor with rating:1.5 KW, 415 V, 3.4 A, f=50 Hz, η=79.6.
