Analysis of a silica cladded silicon nanowire having a deep sub-wavelength central air hole

This paper presents different properties of silicon nanowire when a hole of sub-wavelength diameter is introduced in the central region. The analysis has been carried out using edge element based vector finite element method (FEM). It has been found that the light enhancement and the average mode intensity are higher within smaller holes. The nonlinear coefficient and the group velocity dispersion are also calculated which appear to be very promising for varieties of applications.
