Distribution network reconfiguration using distributed generation unit considering variations of load

This paper presents the distribution network reconfiguration using distributed generation (DG) unit considering the variations of load. A sensitivity index based on voltage stability is used to obtain the optimal location of distributed generation unit. The optimal size of DG unit is optimized using genetic algorithm whereas the network reconfiguration technique is based on real power loss reduction. A residential time varying voltage dependent load model representing the summer season is considered for analysis. The objectives for proposed methodology are power loss reduction and improvement of voltage profile. A look up table of the tie-switch opening for network reconfiguration is presented for the network considered. Effectiveness of the proposed methodology is demonstrated using a 33 node distributed network. The 33 node distribution network has one substation and four feeders.
