The packet arrival model and separation algorithm for an MPR-aware 802.11 DCF MAC protocol

In the collision channel model (CCM), when a collision occurs, all packets that collide are discarded and the problem is solved by MAC layer protocols. As a result of the development of new signal processing techniques in the physical (PHY) layer, receivers having the capability to resolve multiple collided packets could be designed, enabling what is called multi-packet reception (MPR). In this paper we derive the packet arrival model of an MPR-aware 802.11 DCF-based network and promote the use of a specific MPR separation algorithm that turns out to be suitable for the given task.
