GeO2/SiO2 matrix biosensor for detection of probiotic bacteria L. plantarum

The paper aims the detection of active L. plantarum (probiotic microorganism) growth using GeO
2
/SiO
2
matrix based biosensors in air and evaluating the values of hall coefficient of the matrix for different counts of bacteria. In this paper, GeO
2
/SiO
2
matrix was fabricated by bionanotechnology and used as a biosensor. GeO
2
was first synthesized in the presence of magnetic field under microbial influence by oxidizing germanium crystal. The Si ions were then linked to oxygen molecules of the GeO
2
in presence of electrical field under biological cell to form GeO
2
/SiO
2
matrix and used as biosensor. The matrix was used to detect the L. plantarum present in washed curd. This detection of L. plantarum on the surface of biosensor was done by evaluating V-I characteristics of the biosensor and finding the hall coefficient for a specific count of bacteria. The sensitivity and selectivity of biosensor was found out to be 13 cells/ml/cm

/C. It is a low cost sensor and can be used in food industry. It is important because L. plantarum act as a natural antibiotic for the humans to fight with the harmful microorganisms within the human body. The count and growth of cells of L. plantarum in the food materials is also very important. So, we fabricated a biosensor to detect the count and growth of cells of L. plantarum at low cost. The biosensor could also be used in medical fields and biotechnology for research purposes.
