Radiated fields from reduced model lightning discharge channels: A comparison

This paper presents the measurement of radiated electromagnetic fields by two types of the discharge channel used in reduced model simulations: the spiral channel and the thin wire channel. Sensors were built and validated to perform the measurements and an alternative method for the magnetic field sensor validation is presented. A qualitative study of the radiated field distribution was performed. The aim is to characterize the field generated by the spiral channel (especially taking into account its solenoidal geometry) and to evaluate its suitability for reduced model lightning simulation.
