A polarization insensitive FSS element to suppress the grating lobes for wide incident angles

Frequency Selective Surface is a band pass or band stop filter, generally used for very narrow band applications. For broad band applications, where the incident angles goes up to 60

, the FSS elements needs to be hybridized and also the number of layers needs to be increased. More number of layers introduces the grating lobes in the desired band. We are presenting a novel FSS element, `Swastik', which has been tuned to suppress the granting lobes and also giving similar performance from 0 to 60° incidence angles. The intention here is to make the antenna which is covered by Swastik FSS radome, opaque to the enemy radar in the surveillance zone, without affecting its frequency of operation. The same has been fabricated and measured. The measured results are encouraging.
