A dual-band polarized diversity microstrip MIMO antenna with high isolation for WLAN application

A compact dual-element high port isolation microstrip MIMO antenna is presented with polarization diversity for wireless local area communication application. The MIMO antenna is comprised of two square patch antenna fed by the aperture-coupling of the microstrip T-shaped structure arranged orthogonally. The high isolation between ports of the antenna elements is obtain by arranging the antenna orthogonally, the aperture-coupling mechanism and the additional strips at the opposite edges of the T-shaped structure. The dimension of the designed MIMO antenna has been greatly decreased for the unique main radiator shared by two antenna elements. The radiation pattern is modified by the square slot near the center of the shared radiator. The simulated and measured results display that the designed antenna offers the impedance bandwidth from 2.40 GHz to 2.50 GHz (0.1 GHz) and from 5.74 GHz to 6.0 GHz (0.26 GHz), and the port isolation is better than − 28.93 dB throughout the first operating band and − 16.79 dB throughout the second operating band. The presented compact microstrip MIMO antenna is probe to be implemented in the portable terminals.
