Fabrication method of artificial integrated muscle fiber toward bio-actuator

In this paper, we proposed fabrication method of artificial muscle bundle using gel fiber containing C2C12 cells fabricated by microfluidic device. This gel fiber was consisted of sodium alginate gel and fibrin gel. Gel fiber containing C2C12 cells was cultured between silicon tube pillars after sodium alginate gel which inhibit cell growth and elongation was dissolved by immersing into sodium citrate tribasic dihydrate solution. Muscle cell elongation along the gel fiber, cell junction and survival of C2C12 cells was observed from 3 days culture by viability assay. This result represents the possibility of artificial muscle actuator with contraction ability by long-term culture in differentiation induction.
