Measuring the Accessability Based on Web Content Accessibility Guidelines

Accessibility of web content plays an important role for people with disabilities in the same manner as for all other people. The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has published the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 (WCAG 2.0). To reach the goal of accessible Web content for all people, including people with disabilities the Web content has to satisfy the success criteria. The W3C organized a Website Accessibility Metrics symposium for researchers and practitioners. One of the key statement was "Measuring the level of web accessibility is essential for assessing accessibility implementation and improvement over time but finding appropriate measurements is non-trivial." The paper is based on an empirical study and evaluation of existing automatic test tools. Later we will present an approach to measure and calculate the fulfillment of the WCAG 2.0. The fulfillment value can be used to evaluate how good web content fulfils the success criteria. It allows also estimation about effort to change an existing web content to fulfill the WCAG 2.0 guidelines.
