A compact tri-band antenna for WLAN and WiMAX applications

A compact ACS fed planner monopole antenna for WLAN/WiMAX applications is presented in this paper. The proposed antenna has compact structure of size 25mm × 30mm × 1.6mm. The proposed antenna behaves as a multiband antenna which gives three different resonating frequency bands. The antenna is suitable for wireless local area network (WLAN) with its first band resonating at 2.52 GHz with a return loss of -27.5 dB and second band resonating at 5.45 GHz with a return loss of - 19dB. The proposed antenna also covers the WiMAX standards as it resonates its third band at 3.33 GHz with a return loss of -17.5 dB. The proposed triple band antenna uses FR4 as a substrate material. The Compact structure and simple design of proposed antenna make it a suitable prospect to use with various wireless portable devices.
