Open Winding PMSM System for Electric Vehicles Collaboratively Supplied by the Z-Source and Voltage Source Converters

In this paper, a novel open winding PMSM system for electric vehicles (EV) is proposed, which is collaboratively supplied by the bidirectional Z-source and voltage source converters. By employing the Z-source converter into the traditional open winding PMSM system, the constraint of the fixed dc bus voltage can be broken through, and the electric vehicles can achieve a large speed range without the field weakening control. Besides, the bidirectional Z-source can allow the bidirectional power flow, which make the drive system can work in both motoring and generating modes. A strategy of zero-sequence current suppression is employed in the open winding PMSM with common dc bus. Finally, the simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy of open winding PMSM system.
