Traffic adaptive handover management in ATM-based LEO satellite networks

In a low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite network, all calls have to be rerouted periodically as a result of the satellite handovers. To provide better quality of service, the handover rerouting has to be adaptive to a dynamically changing network condition. We propose a traffic adaptive handover rerouting protocol, which is highly distributed and provides scalability so that it enables self-balancing and self-optimization operation without any centralized operation. The handover rerouting protocol distributes the traffic load of sectional congested areas while it optimizes the sub-optimally connected path without the overhead of complete end-to-end handover rerouting.
