Influence of a dielectric insert on energy characteristics of a cruciform waveguide junction

The energy characteristics of the junction consisting of two perpendicular crossed infinite rectangular waveguides coupling through a narrow slot are studied. A transverse slot cut in the wide wall of the first waveguide coincides with the similar slot orientated along a longitudinal axis of the second waveguide. A dielectric insert is allocated in the coupling slot of the first waveguide. The geometry of the joint ensures the evanescent mode of the first waveguide operation. A possibility to vary the power transmission coefficient between the waveguides over a wide range by varying the slot length and electrical parameters of the insert is shown.
